Welcom to Cali Colombia which is the third most impressive and largest city. Founded within 1536 by Sebastian de Belalcazar, it used to be a sleepy little moutain area of local community until the sugar and coffee industries brought prosperity to the region. Did you know that they aren't the just commodities, but one of the exceptions in the industrial world. Soon after drug lord Pablo Escobar was killed within Medellín within 1993 and the Medellín Cartel fell apart, the remaining drug traffickers moved to Cali and formed the Cali Cartel. Before the arrival of the Spaniards the actual region of Cali was inhabited
by Most indigenous tribes, mostly speakers of Cariban languages. On the region
in the range of the Cauca River and the Western Cordillera, the Gorrones were established
in the range of the actual Roldanillo and Cali; the biggest Morron's local community was settled
on the River Pescador close the actual towns of Zarzal and Bugalagrande. Notwithstanding the fact that
cannibals, the Morrones traded with the Quimbayas who inhabited the north
of the Valle del Cauca.
On this man's way to Cali, Sebastián de Belalcázar first met the Timbas that ran away before the arrival of the Conqueror's men leaving behind his towns and gold. Soon after the Timbas, towards the north, the Spaniards entered within the territory of the chief Jamundí and this man's tribe the Jamundíes in the range of the rivers Pance and Jamundí. Did you know that these Indians offered a strong resistance to the invaders, fighting with poisonous darts and arrows against the arquebuses and swords of the Spaniards? Soon after taking Jamundíes' local community the Spaniards looted the Indian's gold.
Before taking complete control over the region the Spaniards had to defeat the chief Petecuy, whose tribe inhabited in the range of the river Lilí and the Western Cordillera. Petecuy formed an awesome army formed by most tribes and fought the Spaniards on the Holy Tuesday of 1536.
The Morrones gave up easily to the Spaniards and were divided within encomiendas. the already "mestizo" nature of the Spaniards made the process of mixing with the Amerindians easy. Within fact, Belalcázar himself had Many kids born within the Americas from Indian mothers, as did this man's men.
Cali was essential for Belalcazar because it was beyond the Inca empire. Soon after the capture and execution of the Inca Atahualpa at Cajamarca, Francisco Pizarro had sent Belalcazar to take possession of Guayaquil and Quito on this man's behalf. Cali, being beyond the Quechua empire, was claimed by Belalcazar as this man's own territory. Soon after this man's death, this man's descendants maintained possession of much of the land until the war of independence against Spain.
